Biography

South Texas Dermatopathology, a Sonic Healthcare dermatopathology practice is privileged to have Patty Miller Castaneda, M.D., as a member of our medical staff. Dr. Miller has worked for South Texas Dermatopathology since 2017 where she currently serves as Managing Director and Laboratory director.

Dr. Miller graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences and a minor in chemistry. During this time, she received the University Medal, the university’s highest academic achievement. She received her medical degree from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she received the Charles Howell, MD, Excellence in Dermatology Award, and she completed an internal medicine internship at Wake Forest Baptist Health. She went on to complete a three- year dermatology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, and concluded her postgraduate training with a dermatopathology fellowship at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Dr. Miller is board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology by the American Board of Dermatology. She has published multiples articles in peer- reviewed medical journals such as the American Journal of Dermatopathology, Dermatologic Surgery, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and The Journal of Family Practice. She has published an interactive case study of the month with the American Society of Dermatopathology, and she has presented numerous abstracts and posters as well as given lectures at various professional society meetings. She is an adjunct assistant professor with the Department of Medicine (Division of Dermatology) at UT Health San Antonio, has an active teaching assignment with the Medicine (Dermatology) service with the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, and also teaches residents (both dermatology and pathology) who rotate through the South Texas Dermatopathology laboratory from UT Health San Antonio as well as the military residency training programs in San Antonio, Texas.
